Rollerski Trip to Thailand
Do you want to join SiamNordic and long-distance skiing legend Anders Aukland on a unique 14-day rollerski and adventure holiday in Thailand in the summer of 2027?
This is not an ordinary package tour. We will get an insider's look into the Thai skiing community, train in spectacular surroundings, participate in the Ski and Snowboard Association of Thailand's (SSAT) main event, and finish with the Thailand Ski Marathon along the exotic Thai coastline.
The event is suitable for ski enthusiasts of all ages from 5 to 100 years old. The SSAT races feature age categories from 5 years to seniors, ranging from supersprint (200m) to 3–15 km interval and mass start races—in both classic and freestyle. The marathon covers three alternative distances in both styles—mini, half, and full marathon.
We have tailored the entire logistics from A to Z, allowing you to focus entirely on training, experiences, and Thai hospitality.
Rollerskiing in Thailand: From a Crazy Idea to a National Sport
In October 2012, Kalle Kristensen and Kjell Isak Sundbø from Kragerø, Norway, strapped on their rollerskis in Northern Thailand—1,000 kilometers and 13 days later, they rolled into Pattaya, south of Bangkok. In many ways, this journey marked the beginning of a true rollerski adventure!
Three years later, Kalle moved to Chumphon, 300 km south of Hua Hin. Locals stared curiously at the Norwegian who "skied" along the beach every day. One day, a group of youths came over and asked to try. Before anyone knew it, Kalle had become the coach of Thailand's very first rollerski club, "importing" used equipment from friends and acquaintances in Norway. Rollerski fever took hold in the small coastal province, and Kalle stubbornly declared that he would turn rollerskiing into a Thai national sport. He poured money, energy, and time into his adventure; we laughed a bit, but supported him along the way.
The two friends stayed in close touch, and while Kalle was busy in Thailand, Kjell Isak gathered experience as a participant in all the major long-distance ski races across Europe.
In 2017, the Ski and Snowboard Association of Thailand (SSAT) paid a visit to Chumphon, and suddenly there was institutional support and funding behind the initiative. Kalle began traveling across the country to promote the sport in new provinces. Interest exploded! In 2020, rollerskiing was officially included in the Thailand National Games. It is now one of 40 sports recognized as a "national sport."
Current Status:
Rollerskiing is one of the fastest-growing sports in Thailand.
Three annual national championships are now organized.
Over 300 active athletes from across the country compete for medals.
Now, Kalle and Kjell Isak are taking the next step to develop the sport in Thailand by creating the Thailand Tour de Ski. Joining the team is Anders Aukland (Olympic and World Championship Gold Medalist, winner of Birken, Vasaloppet, and Marcialonga) as ambassador, advisor, and coach, alongside Tom Sætersdal (resident in Thailand for many years) as general manager and head of logistics.
About the Trip
The trip takes place in July 2027 (exact dates will be confirmed continuously, with departure around the end of June / early July). The itinerary is split into two parts: One week in Kaeng Krachan National Park and one week by the coast in Chumphon.
Week 1: Kaeng Krachan, Phetchaburi
Kaeng Krachan is Thailand's largest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage site thanks to its unique biodiversity. The park is world-famous for its more than 450 bird species, vibrant butterfly life, and the spectacular "Sea of Mist" covering the valleys in the morning.
Right outside the park lies the Kaeng Krachan Circuit—a motorsport track that also serves as SSAT's national arena for rollerskiing. During the first week, we will stay near the track and participate in the official Thai National Championship.
Week 2: Thung Wua Laen, Chumphon
In week 2, we move south to the coastal gem of Chumphon—the birthplace of the Thai rollerski adventure in 2015.
Chumphon lies sheltered along the Gulf of Thailand and is entirely free from mass tourism. The area is known for its untouched sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters with fantastic diving and snorkeling opportunities, and a lush, hilly hinterland. Here, you experience authentic Thailand.
In Chumphon, we will train with the local rollerski club, explore the archipelago on private boat trips, and enjoy quiet days by the coast. The main highlight of the trip will be the Thailand Ski Marathon, rolling along the coastline and idyllic canals on a gentle, spectator-friendly course. With optional distances (mini, half, or full marathon) shared alongside local athletes and Anders Aukland, this will be a memory for life.
